History & Social Sciences

The social sciences program provides for the seamless development of critical thinking skills where students will recognize causation, analysis, and synthesis. The department emphasizes individual ethics and leadership, while enhancing study and communication skills. The program will provide for the understanding of community and the relationships between people and the concepts of geography, economics, culture, and history.

The social science department is structured to provide courses and experiences to help students better understand components which shape both the individual and the world so they can make a difference in God’s world.

A vital role of the social science faculty is to encourage students to understand the traditions that support social and civic responsibilities and values. World Geography is taught in the seventh grade and United States History in eighth grade. Each course is designed to develop independent and ethical learners that will participate in their communities as active citizens. In addition to using the textbook as a resource and reference guide, students also use, create, and analyze maps, pictures, stories, diagrams, charts, chronology, inquiry/research, and technological skills.
