Latin II, AP Latin
Education: Bachelor of Arts, Classics-Latin, University of Florida
Length of time teaching: 7 years
How do you feel you can help students to “Start Here. Go Anywhere.”?
I try to get to know each one of my students not only academically, but personally. They gain more confidence not only to learn, but to lead.
What motivated you to become a teacher?
I wanted to share my love of the Classics! Students tend to focus on the here and now. I want them to realize that we can still learn so much from the ancient Romans and Greeks.
How do you inspire a student who has a hard time with your subject area?
Latin doesn’t come easily to everyone (big surprise, right?) so I take the time to find out what ideas/subjects/learning styles motivate that student.
What do you love about teaching? And about teaching at Holy Trinity?
I love teaching because I enjoy sharing about my personal experiences while inspiring students to appreciate Latin. I look forward to students sharing their own experiences with me as well. Learning from each of my students is equally as important to me. Having attended Holy Trinity myself, I love creating the same memories with my students as I had with my teachers.
What do you want your students to take away from being in your class?
I want them to come away with a love of learning. I frame my class so that students have fun and enjoy themselves while learning, so much so that they don’t even realize how much they’ve really learned.
What is the best compliment you’ve ever received or could receive as a teacher?
I’ve had many students stay in touch over the years, through college and afterward. When students tell me that I’ve made an impact and lasting memory in their lives, that is most important to me.
