Speech and Debate

The HT Speech and Debate team didn't waste anytime to begin competing again this year! The team attended the Central Florida Debate Initiative at Celebration High School, which was attended by 110 students and represented 16 schools from eight Central Florida counties.
We had some outstanding results from both our Junior High and High School students:

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
  • Brianna Ramnath in Original Oratory: 4th place in a Field of Varsity and Novice competitors
  • Karrington Lawson in Novice Declamation: 3rd place

JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS
  • Fefe Montalvo in Congressional Debate: 1st place Middle School and 3rd place overall in a large Field of Varsity and Novice high school competitors
  • Sydney Smith in Original Oratory: 1st place Middle School and 5th place overall in a large Field of Varsity and Novice high school competitors
  • Sophia Weiner in Congressional Debate: 1st place Middle School

We also had several "firsts" to acknowledge:
  • Emily Cleveland was the first HT student to attend a "National Circuit" tournament in Fort Lauderdale, which draws hundreds of the best competitors from around the country. She defeated 3 of her opponents in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
  • Brooke Ramnath and Sophia Weiner competed in Congressional Debate for the first time and defeated several high school competitors.
  • Brianna Ramnath competed in Original Oratory for the first time and placed 4th in the largest field of varsity and novice competitors.
  • Liza Cleveland competed in Oral Interpretation for the first time and defeated one of her competitors.

And as always, thanks to our parent volunteer judges: Edna Lawson and Olga Montalvo!
