Mathworks Math Modeling Challenge

On Saturday, March 3, our two teams of five worked for 14 straight hours to create, test and write a lengthy formal report on an original mathematical model to address the serious problem of food waste in the United States.

Our participants included:

Hari Dandapani, Nikhil Patel, Tony Qian, Michael Roth and Brandon Voepel

Both teams have advanced to the second round of judging and remain in contention for cash prizes up to $20,000. From the organizers, “Only 185 of the 912 teams that submitted viable solution papers were selected to advance to the second round of judging. We expect that round to be completed by Monday, March 26, and we will notify teams of their status shortly thereafter. The top six teams will be required to present their papers at the validation round of judging on Monday, April 30, at the event host’s offices - Jane Street, a quantitative trading firm, headquartered in Manhattan.”
