National Speech and Debate Association Tournament

This is the largest academic competition in the world, with over 5,000 students and 1,200 high schools attending from 49 states.

Our HT students had some notable accomplishments in the face of some tough competition over two days of grueling rounds. They all gained invaluable experience and learned a tremendous amount from the high level of competition there.

  • Brianna Ramnath placed 7th overall in Informative Speaking. She also placed 2nd and 3rd in two of her Poetry rounds.
  • Braxton LaNois and Kiran Shay won three of their Public Forum debates, and just missed making the double octafinal round by one win (four wins advance).
  • Mary Stallard placed 3rd in several of her Dramatic Interp and Impromptu rounds.
  • Mary Lou Galesi placed 1st in one of her Prose rounds and 3rd in another.
  • Sydney Smith placed 2nd and 3rd in two of her Original Oratory rounds.
  • Faz Zaidi won one of his Lincoln-Douglas debates.
  • Emily Cleveland's team won two of their World Schools debates.
