How do you feel you can help students to “Start Here. Go Anywhere.”?
I feel it important to give them the skills needed to be critical thinkers and writers in the 21st century.
What motivated you to become a teacher?
I have always wanted to teach and was motivated to do so by former teachers. One was my eighth grade English teacher, Ms. Williams, who used to teach here at Holy Trinity, she fostered my love for writing. The second was my high school journalism teacher who taught me to never give up and expanded my love for writing into journalistic pieces.
How do you keep current with the subject areas you cover?
I try to look at what my students are interested in and try to gear reading texts and materials that are relevant to them. Once I hook them with the relevance I can then use the curriculum to enhance what they need to learn and expand from there. Also I am an avid reader and so that helps in keeping things current in the classroom as well.
What do you love about teaching? And about teaching at Holy Trinity?
What I love about teaching high school is working with students who are eager to learn and that every day is a new challenge. I love how Holy Trinity fosters the growth of the whole child and that we as teachers help aid in that process for each student.
What are some of your interests and passions outside of the classroom?
One of my favorite things to do outside school is to spend time with my husband and kids. We go to Disney frequently on the weekends. I also enjoy running and have done a few 5ks.
What are your hopes for your discipline at Holy Trinity?
I am the first teacher at Holy Trinity to teach the AP Capstone classes, so I hope to see that the program grow each year. I also hope it allows the students to see how critical thinking and writing are valuable tools outside the classroom, since this AP class is very “real life” skills based.
