Holy Trinity’s tagline is: “Start Here. Go Anywhere.” How do you envision helping students to live this motto?
I believe early childhood education is the foundation where all other education is built. By starting early childhood education at Holy Trinity, a strong foundation will be built in all areas: socioemotional, cognitive and physical development, supported by a faith-based, high character environment.
What do you look forward to the most about teaching at Holy Trinity?
I look forward to the opportunity to come alongside the outstanding preschool/kindergarten teachers and support their work in the classroom. I view my position as a coaching position, with opportunities to research new instructional methods to support their current methods.
What is the most important life lesson you want a child to learn in your classroom?
A child’s most important life lesson is to know that hard work and perseverance will help them work through any situation. As a teacher, my role is to support their struggles with opportunities to practice problem solving. Life has many mountains and valleys; if children can enjoy the mountains and work through the valleys, I feel a balance can be found as they mature and grow.
What motivated you to become a teacher?
God called me to be a kindergarten teacher when I was 12 years old and I have worked to live out His call for more than 35 years. Throughout my years in the classroom, my mission has been to help young children and families make the transition to parents as first teachers to a school environment. Now I look forward to partnering with our early childhood department at Holy Trinity Academy to continue that mission.
What do you love about teaching?
As a kindergarten teacher for 35 years, I have fallen in love with watching five year olds grow and mature! I love watching as they enter the door on the first day of school as a five year old - somewhat shy, timid and unsure about everything that is new, then watching the confident, secure, ready to ‘take on the world’ six year old leave on that last day! It makes everything in between worth it!
What are some of your interests and passions outside of the classroom?
My interests and passions outside of the classroom involve being outside – walking, hiking, gardening. I am involved with the youth group at our church and lead mission trips during the summers. I am a HUGE sports fan – especially any that involve the Gators!
