Holy Trinity’s 2017 Tigrium yearbook was named a Pacemaker Finalist by the National Scholastic Press Association.
The yearbook was one of 55 finalists from throughout the United States, one of two from Florida and the only book from Central Florida. The Pacemaker is the association’s most prestigious award, recognizing the “best of the best” of high school yearbooks.
“This is a huge honor and I can only equate it to the Oscars for high school yearbooks,” said Holy Trinity yearbook and photography teacher, Sarah Tricano. “This is a direct correlation to all the hard work and dedication the yearbook staff puts in year after year to make each book better than the one before.”
In all, 525 yearbooks entered the competition. After two days of judging, 55 finalists were named, representing the top ten percent across the nation. From that group, 24 will earn the Pacemaker award, placing those publications in the top five percent.
According to associate director of the NSPA, Gary Lundgren, “The best yearbooks don’t recap events, they capture dynamic and authentic stories that focus on people. Today’s best yearbooks are remarkable journalistic publications with their own bold personalities.”
Pacemaker finalists will be recognized and Pacemaker winners will be announced at the JEA/NSPA Spring National High School Journalism Convention April 12-15, 2018 in San Francisco.
