Welcome to Swim Team!

Swim Team - 2018
Hello everyone and welcome to the 2018 season of Swimming!
We will begin practices on Aug. 27 at Gleason Park pool. Parents are responsible for transportation for their children to the pool.

Grades 1-3 will practice from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m and 4-6 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please arrive on time as there will always be some on-deck instruction prior to the swimmers getting the pool. It is important that swimmers attend each practice as the instruction will be progressive and allows me to enter them into appropriate events.

I will post the schedule of meets within the next few days but all meets will be on Saturdays, early in the mornings in Palm Bay.

About Me: I began swimming competitively at 5 years old and continued throughout elementary school, junior high, high school and college. I swam for Stony Brook University, a division 1 school up in NY. Swimming was my passion throughout my childhood and young adult life. I coached age group swimming in NY for my childhood team prior to moving to Florida. I have coached the lower school and varsity teams here at Holy Trinity on and off during my 10 years as a teacher and it is my pleasure to come back to coaching now that my own son has shown an interest in being on the team!

My philosophy: Stroke refinement and technique are the number one priority. Endurance and speed will follow when a swimmer has proper form and technique. Our practices will focus on drills, proper stroke, body position and competitive swimming skills.

Safety: Safety is my utmost concern. It will be very important that I have a few helpers during practice time to keep an eye on the kids in the pool. I also expect the children to listen to my instructions and follow the pool rules which include no running and no horseplay. I will be reviewing these rules during the first official practice. If a swimmer does not follow these rules, they will be asked to sit out of practice - there will be no warnings.

Equipment: All swimmers must wear goggles during practice and meets. Girls are required to wear a silicon or lycra swim cap. Girls may not wear two-piece bathing suits and I strongly recommend a "sporty suit" such as this one: http://a.co/517C0F4. I recommend jammers for the boys such as this: http://a.co/cR2EvC0 but regular swim trunks are ok for them as long as they have a tie.

My ultimate goal is to ensure your swimmers have FUN! I want to instill a love of swimming in a safe and fun environment.

I look forward to meeting each of you and please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have!
