Summer Microterms
Microterms are one-week courses designed to give rising 7-12th grade students at Holy Trinity and in the community the opportunity to delve into academic and personal development topics beyond the traditional junior high and high school curriculum.

The summer microterm will run Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7, 2019, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendance is required each day to earn credit. Students must be picked up at 3 p.m. Students will have a 30-minute break for lunch under the supervision of the instructor or Holy Trinity staff member. Students will need to bring a lunch. Students completing a microterm course will earn a .25 (1/4) credit to be listed on the Holy Trinity transcript. Grades will be awarded on a pass/fail basis to emphasize the learning experience over homework and tests. Through students’ junior high and high school careers, they will have the opportunity to earn multiple microterm credits, with four microterm sessions equaling a full academic credit.

*A minimum of five students is required to hold each course. Should a course be cancelled due to lack of participation, a full refund will be issued. Please note, refunds will NOT be issued for cancellations or illness on the part of the student.

Come join us as we look around our community, get inspired, and take positive action through five rewarding days of community service projects. We will work, play, meet new people and gain leadership experience. You may choose to earn either .25 (1/4) credit or 30 hours of community service.

The Holy Trinity Table: Culinary Adventures
Open to rising 9-12th grade students
Students will be provided an opportunity to learn about food preparation and the culinary arts. They will work collaboratively to prepare a variety of meals under the supervision of Sean Bach, the executive chef at the Fat Snook in Cocoa Beach. Sean Bach is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and is known for his innovative dishes. Additionally, students will learn about food safety, sanitation, and dining etiquette. There will be an additional fee of $50 per student to cover food costs. Lunch is included.

Over five days, students will explore the German language to include: alphabet letters that are not common with English, counting, basic phrases for greetings, shopping and ordering a meal. Culture topics will include the system of government; an overview of history to include beginnings from Prussia, division of the country after World War II and the challenges of Reunification and the influx of immigrants; significant German people in science, art and music; and places not to miss if you have a chance to visit Germany. The week will end with a field trip to Edelweiss Restaurant where students may use their newfound language skills to order a German meal.

Learn Microsoft Excel through Personal Finance

This is a course on the basics of Microsoft Excel, a spreadsheet program that is widely used in industry as a tool for analyzing and presenting data. Examples used in the course will focus on personal finance topics, including investing, insurance, budgeting, and careers.

The Physics of Sports
Open to rising 7-12th grade students
The study of physics is not only concerned with the big questions of where the universe came from and how it works, but has real life applications as well. The physics of motion and forces applies to all areas of sports, and can help athletes to move faster, prevent injuries, plan more efficient training, and develop aerodynamic equipment and clothing.

This course will study the principles of motion, Newton’s Laws, work, and energy as they apply to the sports of running, hitting, and the movement of projectiles, among others. The course will be divided between the classroom and the field, with students given the ability to experience what they have learned. All study materials will be provided. Appropriate dress will be required based on the detailed schedule of activities.

SAT/ACT Math Preparation

The SAT/ACT Prep class is designed to familiarize students with the standardized test required for admission to universities. Students will learn test-taking strategies in math, take full-length practice tests, and discover ways to reduce test anxiety.

Essential Strategies for Academic Success (NOTE COURSE DATE: July 8-12, 2019)
Open to rising 7-10th grade students
Students in this microterm course will spend each day of the week focused on a different skill for academic success, including organization, time management, study skills, reading comprehension and stress management. This course is intended to prepare students for the 2019-20 school year and will be offered July 8-12, 8:30am-3pm.
