The following postcards are written by Susan Fletcher from the point of view of a student, recounting the adventures from the fourth grade trip to St. Augustine.
Dear Mom and Dad,
We have finally arrived in historical St. Augustine. My friends and I can’t wait to see all the places we studied in Florida history class with Mrs. Evans. Our adventure began with a trolley car ride that took us on a tour of the city. We saw many interesting places and heard tons of facts from our tour guide about the founding of St. Augustine. Today we visited the Fountain of Youth, Pirate Museum, Old Jail, and Florida Heritage Museum. Lights out at 10:00. I’m ready for bed and excited about what tomorrow will bring.
Your Loving Child
Dear Mom and Dad,
You will be happy to know we had a hot breakfast before starting today’s adventure. The Castillo de San Marco fort was awesome! The cannon blast was so loud that I could hear the loud noise even with my ears covered! We enjoyed candle making, corn cob dart throwing, and learning about the Spanish and French explorers at the Old Florida Museum. The old Wooden School House is nothing like our classrooms. It was fun ringing the school bell to begin class. After eating pizza and brownies for lunch, I bought an ice cream and souvenirs on St. George street. The fourth grade field trip was terrific!
