Essential life skills such as team work, dedication, punctuality, self-esteem, creative thinking and grit that are inherent in music education will help students build the foundation they need to go anywhere.

 

What is the most important life lesson you want a child to learn in your classroom?
The most important life lesson I want students to learn is that through hard work and dedication, you can achieve your goals.

 

What motivated you to become a teacher?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a teacher, but it was my years in chorus that created a desire to share my passion for music with others.

 

How do you keep current with the subject areas you cover?
Lifelong learning is essential to being an effective teacher. Each year I attend music in-services on the local and state level to keep current with my subject area. The Florida Music Education Association has had a profound impact on my teaching. I believe so strongly in this organization that I have served on the board of directors Florida Elementary Music Educators Association and I am proud to be President-Elect. I am looking forward to helping music teachers throughout the state of Florida enhance their teaching skills.

 

How do you inspire students to enjoy learning?
I inspire students by learning about their interests and goals in music and helping to improve themselves as musicians. I also provide students with a well-rounded music education that inspires them to learn about many types of music.

 

What is the best compliment you’ve ever received or could receive as a teacher?
The best compliment I have ever received from former students is that my teaching inspired a love of music in their lives. This is my ultimate goal as a music teacher.
