2018-2019 Personnel Changes

This week, a few more staff positions have fallen into place. See all the personnel changes that will be taking place effective July 1, 2018. 
Upper School:

Mrs. Jeannette Russell will continue teaching the existing engineering classes, but also will be picking up Computer Programming as well as the addition of a junior high Intro to Computer Programming class. Mrs. Russell holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from the University of Central Florida. She has work experience in drafting, engineering design, and programming at Harris Corporation, as well as experience teaching programming here at Holy Trinity.
 
Mr. David Bonanza will be taking on both AP Computer Science courses, including AP Computer Science A (Java) and AP Computer Science Principles; he will continue to teach AP Statistics and AP Macroeconomics. Mr. Bonanza earned a Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, in Business Economics from the University of South Florida. He also has extensive experience using technology for quantitative analysis in political science research, including the most in-depth analysis available on voter registration in Florida, which he has done quarterly for several years. In order to learn more about the AP curriculum, he will be attending a week-long AP Summer Institute in June.

Mrs. Cathy Koos will be going back into a full-time faculty position teaching math. This year marked Mrs. Koos’ 18th year at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy and her 25th year as a math teacher. She was the first math department chair at the Upper School when the campus opened in 2000 and has taught every math course that Holy Trinity offers.

Mr. Steve Henderson will serve as our only Upper School Dean and will also serve as the liaison between HTEA and the BSCO School Resource Officer.

Mrs. Melissa Euziere will be returning in July to work in the College Counseling Office as College Advisor and Student Life Coordinator to advise and support high school students and families in pursuing college placement as well as supporting student activities and field studies. Mrs. Euziere taught history at Holy Trinity for 15 years prior to leaving last year to pursue a position in the private sector.

Mr. James Clark will join the Physical Education department by teaching three classes and will take on an additional role as Student Transition Specialist, overseeing integrated programs and initiatives intended to enhance the success and support of new students for a successful transition into the HTEA community. In this position, he will provide for early identification and intervention of students’ academic and personal/social needs to help remove barriers to learning and promote academic achievement.

Mrs. Alison Bell will be taking on some new duties in addition to her role as Director of College Counseling, working with school leadership in the new role of Institutional Effectiveness. In this role she will lead research and implementation of special academic projects and programs, gather data on graduates and use the data for program refinement as necessary. She will support administrators in the research and development of academic and curriculum issues and will be responsible for reviewing the strategic plan on a quarterly basis and providing updates on implementation progress for goals and tactics. Additionally, she will undertake special projects as assigned by the president from time to time.

Mrs. Sharon Torkelson will be returning as a full-time Spanish teacher in the high school. She holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Georgia State University. Sharon is certified in ESOL, World Languages (Spanish) and has earned her Gifted Learners endorsement.

Mrs. Sommer McDonald will be joining the English Department as a full-time English instructor in the high school. Sommer holds a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Central Florida.

Mr. Scott Crockett, Athletic Director, has taken a new position in the Dominican Republic. We will soon begin interviewing candidates to fill his position.

Mrs. Ann Stroup will be joining our science department. Mrs. Stroup holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tulsa. Mrs. Stroup has several years of experience teaching AP Calculus, AP Physics , Calculus and Physics.

Mrs. Virginia Detty will be teaching all levels of Chemistry to our high school students starting in August of 2018. Mrs. Detty holds a Master’s of Education in Curriculum & Instruction and Science Education as well as a Master’s of Arts in Psychology from The University of New Orleans. Mrs. Detty earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry from Providence College. Mrs. Detty has several years of teaching experience in the areas of Physics, Anatomy, Chemistry and Biology.

Lower School:

Mrs. Shara Benhase, our current Lower School Director of Admissions, will move into the new role of Lower School Director of Student and Academic Services. Mrs. Benhase has been with Holy Trinity for nearly 20 years as both a teacher, early childhood director and admissions director. She also attended the Lower School. In this position Shara will work closely with Dr. Kelce to communicate with and counsel students, faculty, and parents as needed to ensure that student academic, behavioral, and social emotional development goals are being met. The position of Lower School Director of Admissions will be posted on our website soon.

Mrs. Katie Grant
, our Lower School Guidance Counselor, will be leaving Holy Trinity after five years to relocate with her husband, who has received an offer of employment in Atlanta. Mrs. Grant is also a former Lower School student. We are currently seeking a replacement for Mrs. Grant for the expanded role of Lower School Guidance and Schoolwide Testing Coordinator. This position has been posted on our website. We wish Mrs. Grant the best of luck in her new home.

Mrs. JoEllen Williams
 will be moving to a new position as Coordinator of Early Childhood (ECH) programs. In this new role, she will coordinate operations within the Early Childhood Program including staff oversight, budget management, and safety protocol implementation to ensure an educational, caring and safe environment for all ECH children and will serve as a resource and leader to all ECH personnel. She will create, implement and encourage a direct line of communication between parents and preschool teachers.

Ms. Tori Glaubitz, our current extended day coordinator, will take over as a new teacher for third grade, replacing Mrs. Libby White, who is retiring. Ms. Glaubitz attended Florida State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minors in Family and Child Sciences and Social Work. She is currently working toward her master’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Central Florida. Ms. Glaubitz is a 2013 Holy Trinity graduate.

Mrs. Whitney Douglas, our current academic coach, will replace Mrs. Joy Crockett as Kindergarten teacher. As stated above, Mrs. Crockett and her family will be moving out of the country next year. Mrs. Douglas has seven years of classroom experience and holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education & Natural Science, a minor in Special Education from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science in Reading and Language Arts from Florida State University.

Mrs. Barbie Sloop, our current Upper School Spanish teacher, will replace Mrs. Beth Murphy, who is not returning next year. Mrs. Sloop came to Holy Trinity last year with more than 20 years of experience teaching Spanish at the elementary and high school levels. She earned a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences with a major in Spanish from Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina, and an Associate of Arts in Spanish from Peace College in Raleigh.

Mr. Dereck Parker will take on a new role as Lower School Athletic Director next year. He will still be teaching part-time as part of the grade five and six team.

Mrs. Zelia Mendes will be teaching the grade six advanced English and reading class.

Mr. Brad Meyer, our technology integration specialist, will teach the new 5th and 6th grade Tech Lab class, featuring Project Lead the Way (engineering), Coding and Media Creation. He will also lead the new IDEAS Center which will be housed in the area formerly known as the computer lab. More information about the IDEAS Center will be coming soon.
